FIRs made mandatory
The Ruchika case has forced the Central government to take stern steps to stop policemen take advantage of complainants by asking all the state governments to file FIR on all cognizable offences. This decision has been taken by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to put an end to more such Ruchika-Rathore cases. This circular will be issued next week and an amendment of the Cr.P.C. will also be made to make it mandatory for all police stations to register FIRs or to state reasons if they do not register one.In another effort to punish such police officers involved in criminal activities, the Home Ministry has decided to strip all those found guilty of their Police medals. This action was taken by the government after it was made public that no FIR was lodged in Ruchika’s case for nine long years.
